003

For my first project I chose a game that is relatively short and simple. A Witch’s Tale. A Nintendo DS game created by NIS that experienced a lot of turbulence and hype during its creation. It was supposed to be an action/RPG title although during the last phases of production it was changed into a pure RPG format. As a result the game play experience was extremely hindered by an obviously rushed and repetitive battle system that featured random battles instead of monsters you could run around and avoid. This change was obviously made after the maps were created as the maps are quite large and stretched out – which makes it annoying having to walk across the map. That said, right from the start the game draws you in with atmosphere. The wonderful story, art and soundtrack absolutely make this game an awesome experience if you can ignore the tedious battle system.

It’s another one of those twisted Alice in Wonderland sort of games with a feel similar to Nightmare Before Christmas. Although the Alice references stop at names and sometimes personalities only. The story itself completely deviates from Carol’s classic work. It’s about a world where the Witches of the underworld – lead by the Eld Witch attempted to take over the surface world due to their jealously. Using their rune magic that laid waste to the world only to be stopped by the mystical Queen Alice whom used their own rune magic against them and sealed them away for good. Now, 1000 years have passed and rune magic is considered forbidden and has been all but forgotten by the general population. All except for a young, ambitious witch named Liddell who wants to become the next best witch – quicker than she can learn in school. So she sets off to find the forbidden magic – however in doing so she accidently released the Eld Witch upon the world again. Now Liddell must work to save the world she doomed by releasing rune magic on the surface world again.

It’s a charming story filled to the brim with great characters – although there are certain places where the plot feels thin. I’m going to seek to fix that problem by extrapolating on the plot already within the game. The game doesn’t really devel deep enough into the pasts of its characters either – why I find said. This game had a lot of potential to be absolutely amazing. I hope to give it that second chance.

My progress will be slow until I finish going through the first and second playthroughs of the game. Since there is not a game script out there I am making one myself to use as reference when creating the script. It’s a looooong process and I’m already 6000+ words into it. Although when the scripts are completed and ready for the voices I figure I can  make this into a 10 episode radioplay. With maybe some added bonuses like an episode focusing on the Great War that occurred 1000 years ago and such. We’ll see. I’d say I’m about 30% done the original scripting process and hope to be at least 70% complete by this weekend.

Yeah, yeah I know. Posting again so soon? I figure since I literally just started this blog, and thus have no follower once so ever, I really don’t have to worry about spamming anyone. Besides, this really deserved it’s own post anyways. For organizational purposes. .... Yeah.

Anyways, as I mentioned before most of my current goals and aspirations revolve around adapting video games to a radio play format. I want to do this for several reasons. First and foremost being that I love the games therefore naturally want the radio plays  to do my love for them justice. Secondly, some games either had so much potential – but didn’t go deep enough, or was lacking in some game play aspects, but had a WONDERFUL story to tell. But thanks to bad game play the fandom for said games remain quite small and largely inactive – adapting it so I can expose the story and make it accessible is me doing my part to keep fandom’s alive. Thirdly, it’s a well known fact that not everyone can buy every single gaming system out there especially since there are so many. Radio plays posted for free on the internet makes them accessible to everyone. And lastly, idek, it’s just fun? Maybe I’m crazy? Maybe both? Who knows! I sure as hell don’t.

That said, below is my “wish list” of productions so to speak. I know I won’t get to them all but they are products I would to take on.  Currently.

Adaptations:

A Witch’s Tale
Persona 3 +Persona 3 Portable
Persona 4
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Trauma Center: New Blood
Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2
Trauma Team
Neverwinter Nights
Neverwinter Nights 2
The World Ends With You
Before Crisis
Final Fantasy 7
Overdone in the voice acting community – but I would love to do something Sonic related.
Tales of the Abyss

Original Scripts:
Persona 3 + 4 Together in one series. - I already have plans for this
Maybe some backstory epsisode for A Witch's Tale?
Sonic related bit applies here too.
I have a few non-famdom related ideas too.

As you can see... PROBABLY, most likely wont get everything on here done ever -- unless I somehow start getting paid to do this stuff and it becomes a way to play the bills. Which is even less likely than completing all those projects! But hey, a girl can dream right?

Hello! As my first post in my virgin blog I suppose I should introduce myself and what this blog will be used for. As the title suggests, my name is Caitlyn Glass and this will be a production blog of sorts. This is where I will post about my progress on my radio plays (and perhaps mash up albums in the future). My planned productions are mostly fan-works so far – adapting video games (most of them under loved)  in radio plays for people to enjoy and hopefully draw more people into the fandom while doing so.

When I say adaptation I really do mean it. I really dislike those audio productions that just put voices to a game script and then call it a radio play. A radio play needs more dialogue, more re-working than just the game script. Just putting voices to the script makes ones “radio play” a dub with no visual content. Which in most cases doesn’t keep your audience’s attention.  My goal is to adapt by extrapolating the main script of the game to fit it to a radio play format while staying true to the original. It’s a lofty goal but I intend to fulfill it – and hopefully up keeping this blog will keep me motivated.

That said, I have nothing ready at the moment – I’m halfway through a script writing play through for my first project “A Witch’s Tale”. However if you see yourself wanting to do voice acting keep an eye out for when I post links to my audition threads. I’m also always looking for help and tips on mixing and producing since I’m still a beginner myself (one that’s probably biting off a little more than they can chew).

With that aside, if for some reason you are reading this blog, thank you for stopping by and welcome!

Cheers,
